OPERATION: Transanal Excision of Rectal Tumour
ANAESTHETIC: General / spinal anaesthesia
ANTIBIOTICS: IV antibiotics at induction
POSITION: [Prone jack-knife for anterior lesions / lithotomy for posterior lesions]. Full bowel preparation.

INDICATION:
[Benign rectal polyp not amenable to endoscopic resection / selected early-stage rectal carcinoma in appropriate candidates]. Selection criteria for malignant lesions: ≤9 cm from anal verge, ≤4 cm diameter, mobile, occupying <one-third of rectal circumference, clinically T1, well or moderately differentiated, no lymphovascular invasion, no lymph node involvement on EUS. Preoperative investigations: EUS [depth of invasion / lymph node assessment], CT [metastatic disease excluded], colonoscopy [remainder of colon clear].
