OPERATION: Open Intraperitoneal Onlay Mesh (IPOM) Repair of Incisional Hernia
ANAESTHETIC: General anaesthesia
FINDINGS: Large incisional hernia protruding through [size] cm fascial defect. Contents viable.
INCISION: Midline incision directly over hernia.
PROCEDURE:
Contents of hernia reduced to abdominal cavity. Margins of defect cleared.
Sac resected to margins of defect.
Repair with [size] cm mesh applied IPOM technique, fixed with staples.
Defect closed over mesh with looped nylon.
Subcutaneous drain inserted.
Infiltration of fascial sheath and skin with 0.5% levobupivacaine.
CLOSURE:
Skin closure with clips.
POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS:
Eat and drink as tolerated. Mobilise.
Drain output measured daily. Remove skin clips in 14 days.
