SPLENECTOMY (OPEN) Indication: Splenic trauma with haemodynamic instability, haematological conditions (ITP, hereditary spherocytosis, TTP), splenic tumours, portal hypertension with symptomatic hypersplenism, or as part of an oncological resection. Patient Position: Supine or right lateral decubitus. Anaesthesia: General. Prophylactic Antibiotics: Per protocol. Incision: Midline laparotomy or left subcostal. Procedure: 1. Abdomen entered and explored. In trauma: haemoperitoneum controlled with manual compression while resuscitation proceeds.
