SPLENECTOMY (LAPAROSCOPIC) Indication: Elective splenectomy for haematological conditions (ITP, hereditary spherocytosis) or symptomatic splenomegaly (moderate-sized spleen). Preferred elective approach for normal or moderately enlarged spleens. Patient Position: Right lateral decubitus (semi-lateral) with the patient's left side up and table flexed. Anaesthesia: General. Ports: Three to four left-sided laparoscopic ports. Procedure: 1. Pneumoperitoneum established. Peritoneal cavity inspected. 2. Gravity assists medial displacement of the spleen. 3. Splenocolic and splenorenal ligaments divided with energy device.
