LIVER RESECTION (HEPATECTOMY)

Indication: Hepatic malignancy (colorectal metastases, hepatocellular carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma), or benign lesions requiring resection. Requires adequate functional liver remnant (FLR). Portal vein embolisation used pre-operatively if FLR is insufficient.

Patient Position: Supine with right lateral tilt or table extension.

Anaesthesia: General (with CVP monitoring).

Prophylactic Antibiotics: Per protocol.

Incision: Right subcostal with midline extension (Mercedes) or midline.

Procedure:
1. Abdomen entered and explored. Intraoperative ultrasound used to define tumour margins, proximity to major vessels, and additional lesions.
