OPERATION: Laparoscopic Defunctioning Loop Colostomy
ANAESTHETIC: General anaesthesia

WHO Checklist. VTE prophylaxis. IV antibiotics. Lloyd-Davis position. Urinary catheter.

FINDINGS: [Obstructing or perforating rectal pathology. Mobile sigmoid colon].

PROCEDURE:
10mm supraumbilical port via modified open Hasson technique.
x2 5mm ports under direct vision.
Sigmoid colon mobilised from lateral attachments.
Trephine incision at premarked left iliac fossa site.
Left inferior epigastric vessels ligated. Haemostasis achieved.
Loop colostomy matured with 3-0 Vicryl.

CLOSURE:
J-0 PDS to rectus sheath.
3-0 Monocryl to skin. 20ml levobupivacaine to wounds.

POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS:
Eat and drink as tolerated. Analgesia. Mobilise.
Stoma education. Home when stoma-competent.
