OPERATION: Epigastric Hernia Open Suture Repair
ANAESTHETIC: General anaesthesia / Local anaesthesia

FINDINGS: Epigastric hernia with 2cm fascial defect and pre-peritoneal fat herniation.

PROCEDURE:
Longitudinal incision over hernia.
Herniations cleared all round.
Contains only pre-peritoneal fat, healthy appearance, no bowel involvement.
Reduction of herniated fat. Adequate clearance of fascia confirmed all around.

CLOSURE:
No.1 Ethilon interrupted fascial sutures closing defect.
Subcutaneous tissue approximated with 2-0 Vicryl.
3-0 Monocryl subcuticular sutures to skin. Dressings applied.

POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS:
Home same day if well. Avoid excessive straining for 4-6 weeks.
